Today I visited painter Agnieszka Zawisza in her Warsaw studio to take some shots of her newest canvases. I was snapping away at a verdant lushness featuring two tiny flamingos (and saying something about the marvelous coarse pointillism on display) when my eye caught a concurrent glimpse of the technicolor world on fire, which I had finished photographing earlier, now propped up against a wall within my field of view. The connection was instant and shockingly meaningful, growing on us both as we studied the relationships, formal and conceptual, between the two artworks. Thus, a diptych was born, one that for me is all about impending climate doom and what we stand to save if we somehow swerve to avoid it.

And you? What does this combination bring up for you?
