Winter in Warsaw is fog-white and light-splashed black in turns. The air smells sort of fresh but only for a second. This year we have squeaky snow, extreme atmospheric pressure jumps, and temperatures so sub-zero that we’re all just talking about the weather. But those barometric spikes are tough on me, so for this post I’m just going to share a few recent photos I took of winter in Warsaw.
I absolutely love how the new Museum of Modern Art tends to look like a dirty white panel installed to obscure the Pałac Kultury. (Importantly, I love both the MSN building’s modernist-minimalist exterior and the ornate-totalitarian Palace of Culture, which is why I believe that the thing I just said is not mean at all but joyful and funny.)
This one reminds me of another photo where a construction crane was in the perfect place at the perfect time.
