The Jam on 2025 11 02

Another Sunday in Twarda—2025 11 02—facilitated by Andrzej Woźniak, the creative force behind Pracownia Ruchu Sytuacje, (who is patient as I take my time learning to simply write sytuacje. pracownia ruchu instead, without making entire footnotes out of it).

Another confluence of grounded awareness and effervescent motion. Another high mass of lo-fi midday togetherness. Another sociovisual feast of a blogpost possible thanks to so much generous consent, most implicit, some explicit.*

As familiar as I have become with shooting contact improvisation, I am invariably dazzled anew by the form’s transcendent photogenicity. Again, I have chosen my top twenty images, but this time a question accompanies my selection. How distinct are these photos from the last ones I shared? So many things being identical—event, subject, location; the time of year, day of the week, and time of day; the Fujinon portrait prime and the eye behind the camera—are this Sunday’s photos as different from that other Sunday’s as I feel they might be? No answers are needed, though all are welcome. My own sense is that it’s hard to say but fun to speculate, as with most things.

*I’ve discovered that trust shatters not only when it’s betrayed but also when it’s taken for granted. So even when people agree to photos and make no deletion requests during the opt-out phase, I ask for explicit permission before sharing photos that seem to me to involve extremes of vulnerablility. The more practice I gain handling consent with transparency, the more depth I am rewarded with as a photographer.
