Another Sunday in Twarda—2025 11 02—facilitated by Andrzej Woźniak, the creative force behind Pracownia Ruchu Sytuacje, (who would probably appreciate it if I could just simply write sytuacje. pracownia ruchu instead, without making entire footnotes out of it).
Another confluence of grounded awareness and effervescent motion. Another high mass of lo-fi midday togetherness. Another ceremony of resonance. Another sociovisual feast of a blogpost possible thanks to so much generous consent, most implicit, some explicit.*
As familiar as I have become with shooting contact improvisation, I am invariably dazzled anew by the form’s transcendent photogenicity. Again, I have chosen my top twenty images, but this time a question accompanies my selection. How distinct are these photos from the last ones I shared? So many things being identical—event, subject, location; the time of year, day of the week, and time of day; the Fujinon portrait prime and the eye behind the camera—are this Sunday’s photos as different from that other Sunday’s as I feel they might be? No answers are needed, though all thoughts are welcome. My own sense is that it’s hard to say but fun to speculate, as with most things.
*Even when people agree to photos from the outset and when the opt-out window has closed, I ask for explicit permission before sharing photos where likely extremes of vulnerablility are concerned. Before sharing the photos from this jam, I reached out to four people to confirm consent at the sorting-and-deletion stage. Trust shatters when it’s taken for granted. The more practice I have handling it responsibly, the more intimacy there is in the photography and in the images.
